Aloft Hotel Takes Flight

Aloft Hotel Takes Flight

We've blogged the aloft concept before -- Starwood Hotels' line of budget-friendly accomodations -- but the new Portland location has us wanting to pull out our gummi bracelets and jellies. While the photos of the prototype seen in Metropolis don't seem particularly over-the-top, the version at the Portland airport is all that and then some.

Sure, 80's style has come back in fashion, but how do you feel about its applications for decor? There's a lot going on in these photos; from stripes to squiggles, a pretty wild combination is packed into these public spaces, designed in conjunction with David Rockwell and the Rockwell group.

While bed and bath appear a little more staid, the images leave us wondering if anyone's been to the other locations and whether all aloft hotels are so stylistically loud. With all the chic yet economical hotel options in Stumptown (most notably the Ace and Jupiter hotels), would aloft make it on your list?

Check out the space for yourself when the w xyz lounge hosts an opening night party, complete with cocktails, DJs, giveaways and speed boat races in the hotel pool.
