Nothing is more shocking than being broken up with on Valentine’s Day. New York City knows this more than anyone right now, as the news that Amazon pulling their HQ2 out of Queens is splashed across the headlines.

In case you haven’t been following the NYC-Amazon saga for the past few months, we’ll get you up to speed. In November 2018, Amazon announced that it would be splitting its second headquarters between Long Island City in Queens and Crystal City, Virginia. And New Yorkers have been split, too.

On one hand, it meant more jobs were coming; on the other, it meant that rent would skyrocket in Queens and most likely dabble into the other boroughs. Since 2010, LIC was seeing an influx of new residential apartment buildings—more than any other city in the U.S. But while the units were there, the infrastructure was not, and government officials offering a tax break without disclosing information was making taxpayers skeptical.

Earlier this week, there were rumors that Amazon was threatening to pull out of NYC after a public backlash, and now the massive tech company has spoken: The deal is dead. Cue the strong, opinionated tweets of those for and against Amazon pulling out—and boy, do people have a lot to say.

What would a dramatic breakup be without a few witty jokes here and there?

Evidence that love can truly be a b*tch.

Is that you, Dr. Evil?

If anyone questioned it before…

I bet Amazon will regret this after seeing its local dancing talent. #whatcouldhavebeen
