You Can Buy a Loved One (Or Yourself) a Heart-Shaped Succulent on Amazon
Move over, roses: houseplants are the way to show you love someone on Valentine’s Day and beyond. A spider plant or a fiddle leaf fig is great, but your romantic gesture one step further and gift your person a heart-shaped succulent.
First spotted on The Sill, this succulent’s official name is Hoya kerrii but commonly goes by Hoya Heart for its unique shape, and it’s also available at other retailers like Amazon. Not only is it thematically spot on for the month of February, but it’s a great opportunity to give someone (or yourself) the gift of plant life—and a low-maintenance life at that.
The Hoya Heart stems from the Dogbane family, Apocynaceae, which shares its genetics with many other plant variations—from Plumeria to Periwinkle and of course Dogbane. This plant is known to have aromatic compounds that makes it a fit for perfume production. And the fragrance changes with the aging flower, too, so it delivers scent-filled surprises over its lifetime.
Some additional details: Hoya Hearts are pet-friendly, so you don’t have to worry about your plant baby coexisting with your furry friend. Their appearance looks wax-like and they produce latex-like sap, and they’re cultivated and sold as leaf cuttings like the ones you see online.
Like mentioned above, Amazon sells them cheap with quick and easy handling, offering up free delivery through Prime. Sold by nursery Costa Farms, the succulent comes in a white planter that has two word art options: “Love” and “Life would succ without you” (because there always needs to be a plant pun involved).
This product is selling for $24.50, but giving your loved one a heart-shaped plant is priceless.
