Expanding his ability to put dogs into a state of Zen, dog whisperer Cesar Millan has partnered with to launch Audible for Dogs, an expansive collection of over 350,000 audiobooks specifically designed to help the pooch in your life be more calm and relaxed.

While there's no substitute for interacting with their person(s), these audiobooks for dogs attempt to pick up some of the slack for those of us who feel like Really Bad Humans™ when leaving our furry friends home alone.

As a result of studies conducted at Millan's Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles, in which researchers played audiobooks for 100 dogs, 76 percent of the dog owners reported a change in the animals' behavior over a four-week period — but Millan says Audible should make a difference almost immediately.

"The first day you have to make an association," Millan explains. "The rest of it is repetition of the first day."

Audible for Dogs audiobooks include: Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, performed by Rosamund Pike; Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, narrated by Shelly Frasier; Maria Goodavage's Soldier Dogs: The Untold Story of America's Canine Heroes, narrated by Nicole Vilencia; and Trevor Noah's Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, read by the author himself.

Of the currently available titles, Millan (naturally) counts W. Bruce Cameron's A Dog Purpose, narrated by William Dufris, among his favorites.

"I think they have a bigger purpose than just being companions," Millan says of his beloved animals.

For the human who needs an added dose of moral support, Audible for Dogs comes with sensible tips from Millan himself in the form of an original (and free to download) audio book he wrote and narrated: Cesar's Guide to Bringing Home a Shelter Dog.

With so many titles to choose from, where does a human start? And which factors should be considered when selecting an audiobook for your dog that will transform them from anxiety-ridden creature into cool, collected canine?

"This is the beauty of a dog," Millan says. "Whatever you like, he's going to love it. You're not going to have a lot of rejection or confusion from a dog. As long as you like what you're hearing, the dog is going to experience it that way."

He added, "When you like a title you're interested [in], something happens inside of you, and that's what a dog is going to see. 'Every time my human plays this, he feels really good about it.' So we are pretty much the conduits to the experience."

Additionally, choosing an audiobook that features a reader whose gender, accent and tone are similar to those of the primary master also appears to have a more positive impact on the dog's behavioral changes.

So, it's official: Audible is now a must-have on any dog owner's shopping list for a damage-free home.
