Shopping for bedding can be ridiculously complicated. Does thread count matter? What does sateen and percale mean? Should you pick flannel or linen or something more breathable? It can all be a bit much.

So naturally, my ears perked up when I heard about the most popular sheets on Amazon, with over 56,000 reviews. This was the kind of popularity contest I could get behind. Mellanni’s microfiber bed sheets are Amazon’s best seller in the “fitted bed sheets” category and currently have an overall rating of 4.4 stars, which includes more than 41,000 5-star reviews. One college student even wrote a poem about them. I had to try them to see if they lived up to the hype.

Despite the quantity of favorable reviews, I was not sure if microfiber sheets were something I’d be into. I mostly buy cotton sheets, and I questioned whether microfiber would be too hot for July in Boston. In reality, they were some of the most cooling sheets I’ve slept on. One reviewer sums it up nicely: “Since they are a synthetic fiber, I feared microfiber sheets would be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I was wrong; these sheets are what I’ve been looking for, for many years.”

I’ve slept on them for about a month and they’ve been to my local wash & fold (which does not hold back on the high heat/high speed cycles) a couple times, and they’re as soft as they were out of the package, which is to say, extremely soft.

“I’ve now been using this sheet set (in white) for a few months I’m still equally in love with them,” one reviewer says. “No pilling yet, they wash nicely and dry quickly. They’re still super soft. I’m definitely sold and have been slowly replacing all the other sheet sets in my house with these.”

Mellanni’s sheets come in 38 colors and patterns, as well as every size from twin and twin XL to California king and even a split king option (when you use two twin beds together to make a king sized bed) with two fitted sheets. And you can’t beat the price—they’re usually under $30 for a queen set.
