Independence Day isn’t the only major holiday in July. Once the fireworks are over, Amazon’s annual Prime Day begins, with huge sales across all categories, exclusively for Prime members. Amazon just announced that this year’s event will be held on Monday, July 15, beginning at 12 am PT/3 am ET and will last 48 hours, ending at 11:59 pm PT/2:59 am ET on Tuesday, July 16. There will also likely be a lot of special sales in the walk-up to Prime Day, so you’ll want to keep an eye on Amazon’s Deals section in the days leading up to the official start (we’ll also be tracking them on our Prime Day hub page).

What Will Be Included in Prime Day Deals?

A whole lot. Appliances, gadgets, and everyday essentials are sure to be discounted—last year we saw incredible prices on Roombas, Dyson vacuums, mattresses, and of course, Instant Pots. It’s likely that the best deals will be on Amazon devices like the Echo smart speaker, Fire TV Stick, and Kindle.

It’s not all gadgets and big brands, either. Last year we saw deals on Amazon Handmade products, allowing consumers to support small businesses while still snagging deals. There were also discounts on Whole Foods groceries!

Do I Need to Be an Amazon Prime Member to Participate?

Yes, only Amazon Prime members can score these deals. If you want to dip your toes in Prime benefits now, you can start a one month free trial and decide afterwards whether or not it’s worth keeping. Aside from Prime Day sales, benefits include unlimited two-day shipping, savings at Whole Foods, lightning deals exclusively for Prime members, and access to Amazon Original TV shows and movies (like Fleabag, which everyone should watch right now). The most standard plan costs $12.99 per month, but you can also sign up for a video-only plan for $8.99 per month.

Where Can I Shop on Prime Day?

Aside from your regular browser, you can also ask your Alexa-enabled device to tell you about all the deals. The Amazon app is also a good one to have downloaded—last year’s app users got exclusive sneak peaks at the best upcoming deals.
