Scrabble Deluxe

You know the drill: Grab seven tiles (pray that you don’t get the Q and no vowels!), use them to form a word on the board, and try for that coveted triple-word-score spot. This deluxe set comes with a carrying case, making it great for travel, and a wheeled game board that turns toward each player. Not included? A Scrabble dictionary for challenging those words you’re convinced your friend made up.

B8? No? G7? Missed again? C3? Nothing?!! Keep trying until you get enough red pegs to take down one of your opponent’s battleships.

Shake up the letters in the container, let them settle, flip the sand timer, and go! Find as many words as you can horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, then tally up everyone’s scores when the timer runs out. As with Scrabble, it might be good to have a dictionary on hand to confirm that “zebu” is, in fact, a word.

Trivial Pursuit Classic Edition

Great for groups, this Trivial Pursuit game includes all of the original categories you remember—Geography, Entertainment, History, Art and Literature, Science and Nature, and Sports and Leisure—plus a mix of new and old questions you probably still don’t know the answer to. Quick—What is the actual color of the sun? I thought so.

The Game of Life

Get in your car, spin the numbered wheel, and steer your way through life, building a career, starting a family, and even adopting pets along the way. Of course, all of this will cost you money, and the ultimate object of the game is to retire rich. We can all dream, can’t we?

You get 13 chances to roll the 5 dice, and the player with the highest score wins. How does scoring work? Great question: The included note pad lists out 13 major categories, including individual points as well as bonus points for things like three of a kind, a full house, a small straight, and Yahtzee (5 of a kind).

Poor Cavity Sam. Not only does he have a terrible name, but his health is a complete mess. Thankfully, you can tweeze out that water in his knee or that butterfly in his stomach. But use a steady hand or you’ll set off the buzzer and trigger his red-light nose. Just try playing this game after a few cocktails on game night. On a side note, it’s nice to see that Sam now wears boxers for his surgery, unlike in the vintage version of the game, where he went commando.

Monopoly Game of Thrones Edition

Travel the land of Westeros and trade locations from the Seven Kingdoms with this special edition Monopoly game, which includes tokens, money, and graphics inspired by the cult-favorite TV series (yes, there are dragons!).

Connect 4

It’s kind of like tic-tac-toe, only the goal of this game is to get four in a row instead of three. This updated version of the classic includes blue disks that can be used to block an opponent’s checker or lift one up to quickly win the game.

Left foot, yellow. Oh, the positions you’ll find yourself in while playing Twister! This edition lets even more people get tied up in knots, thanks to a bigger mat and more colored spots. Another unique twist? It’s also compatible with Alexa.

The goal of Risk is to invade territories and take over the world. We’ll just leave that there. This game seemed to take forever as a kid, but the good news is that it now has improved mission cards to speed things along.
