Greenpeace recently called out Amazon on not being as energy efficient they could be. The online retailer is making strides to improve, announcing this week that they're building a solar farm in Virginia to power Amazon Web Services data centers.

Partnering with the firm Community Energy, the new 80 megawatt solar farm will be the largest solar facility in the state to date. Virginia still relies heavily on coal, so this move to clean energy helps lower the company's carbon profile.

Amazon says 25% of its global infrastructure is powered by renewable energy, yet Greenpeace (and Amazon Web Services clients like Tumblr & The Huffington Post) are asking the company to be more transparent about how much energy their data centers consume.
