Ambient Pool Lighting: Uses No Power, No Need to Install

Ambient Pool Lighting: Uses No Power, No Need to Install

We're going to go out on a limb and say that most AT readers don't have private pools. But if you're lucky enough to be in a warm climate, own your place, have a house with a yard and happen to have a pool in that yard, maybe this eco-friendly and no-install (read: cheap and easy, just how we like it) solution to pool lighting will tickle your fancy....

Installing underwater lights if you pool has too few or none can be a tedious and expensive project. The pool has to be drained (where does all that water go?) and there will be concrete and tile torn up and put back together again.

Circumventing the whole installation thing is Lysandre Follet's Ecolights which pop right into your water jets to use the pre-existing flow from the filter pump to drive a small turbine and a set of LEDs. That's right, these babies won't need to be connected to any source of power—which means they don't need to be wired up and you save money.

We love it when green living takes on two meanings. We love saving Mother Earth, but sometimes it's our wallets that need our help, too.
