America's Best Idea: Celebrating The National Parks

America's Best Idea: Celebrating The National Parks

If you're lucky enough to visit one or more of our National Parks this year, here are a few things that might make your trip more pleasant and help preserve your amazing memories...

  1. The National Parks Journals are kind of like what I was attempting with my San Francisco Welcome/Survival Kit (a handy kit full of maps and notes with room to write), only classier and leather bound.

  2. If you collect patches from the National Parks, Apartment Therapy readers have some great ideas for saving and displaying patches. I especially like the suggestions to sew each patch to a square of a quilt, sew them to triangles of fabric to make pennants/bunting, display them in shadowboxes, and put them under glass for a cool desktop. Check out Hubpages for more ideas for patches.

  3. Ello There's adorably official National Parks Wilderness Explorer patch would make an excellent addition to your collection — especially if you're too busy exploring to stop at the gift shop!

  4. Ello There also makes the National Parks Checklist Map that I shared here last 4th of July, which I'd love to have for our family. There are a few we could check off with adorable tree stickers, but maybe it would inspire us to hit the road and start hiking!

  5. Oh, how I long to own one of Pendleton's National Park blankets, featured on Apartment Therapy back in 2011. The newest one, honoring The Badlands, is particularly nice. I would definitely have to hit some National Parks before buying a blanket or I'd feel like a poseur..

  6. Don't drive yourself crazy attempting to get the perfect shot that captures the wild majesty of the National Parks: Ansel Adams has already done all the (literal) heavy lifting for you. His book, In The National Parks, has over 200 gorgeous black and white photos, as well as quotes from Adams and essays by environmentalists.
