The office of Sid Lee New York a) doesn’t really look like an office at all b) is designed to inspire creativity c) isn’t trying too hard to be cool, making it basically the coolest space around.

From Nil Erbil, Creative Director: Global advertising agency Sid Lee asked Style Mood to design their 8,000 square feet Tribeca space to be unlike any other creative office, a place “where we can detach our minds from distraction and be free to create”.

The late 19th century space, formerly an architect studio, has been completely opened up by removing most of the old wooden doors and panels, and replacing them with glass. The wood was then up-cycled into benches and tables for the space. The open plan office has long benches to work from, a canvas tent for meetings, and hanging chairs facing a sofa for inspired brainstorming sessions, all helping to create an office that does not feel like one.

The laid-back workspace has a hint of West-coast style with it’s subtle Californian touches and tropical plants. The mixture of custom-made furniture with mid century pieces, adds to this distinctive feel. A meeting room with a “surfboard table” and denim covered pin-board walls, hand painted type by local artist on a glass door reading, “Pitch better have my money”, all help to create an informal atmosphere conducive to creative work.

Furthermore, the layout gives Sid Lee employees the option to choose from working from a communal table or completely isolated in the soundproof recording studio. Style Mood spent time thinking about how creatives could best unlock their subconscious and get to the best ideas. “We found that by creating a space with different zones to actively switch off, we were able to offer something for every style of creative, whether that was an indoor badminton court or a tucked away snug.”
