Another Household Multitasker: 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

Ah, the wonders of hydrogen peroxide. Swish it around in your mouth for a fresher smile, toss a cup in with your laundry to brighten it up, even clean the windows. It sounds a lot like another eco- and budget-friendly household powerhorse, doesn't it? Here's a roundup of all the great ways we've used the oh-so-common HP, plus a few more that might surprise you.

At the eye doctor this week, we were instructed to clean our contacts once a week in hydrogen peroxide (and use a special container). Earlier that same day, a coworker sent around an email that suggested using hydrogen peroxide in place of bleach, and so we obviously had the household product on the brain.

Turns out, it's quite good as an all-around disinfectant, brightener, whitener, freshener, and mouthwash! Here are a few links to some of our favorite ways to use it—and buy it in a much bigger bottle next time.
