If you follow New York’s freshman congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on social media, you know she’s pretty transparent about navigating the ins and outs of her new role—and new life—in DC. Back in November, she spoke with the New York Times about the realities of her transition from bartender to legislator: “I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real.”

While she has a place now, it’s apparently “almost furnitureless.” So AOC asked Twitter what she should be shopping for, and got quite a few responses—over 18,000 to be exact.

Even some famous folks chimed in, like our Fab Five friend Bobby Berk.

Since this is basically what we do at Apartment Therapy, I asked our editors Slack channel to chime in with their picks for AOC’s shopping list. Here’s what we suggest for her top five priorities:

Taryn Williford, Cleaning & Lifestyle Editor: Sofa, mattress, nightstand, coffee table, entryway table.

Adrienne Breaux, House Tour Editor: Get one of those beds with the attached nightstands, a sectional sofa, a soft ottoman/coffee table, a desk with some drawers/storage that could also double as a credenza or TV stand, rug, lamp.

Dabney Frake, Projects Editor: Ergonomic chair, because she needs to take care of herself. And a kitchen cart. Didn’t we say every human needs a cart on wheels?

Laura Schocker, Editor-in-Chief: A comfy couch, a storage coffee table, a great rug, good lighting, and Command hooks.

Nicoletta Richardson, Sr. Assoc. News & Culture Editor: A nice enough looking trash can to, well, put all the trash.
