Creatives Carve Out a Home on a School Bus
Name: James & Jen Location: Atlanta, Georgia The basics: Purchased March 2016, completed March 2017 | 125 square feet It still seems a little unreal that people can live on busses without being part of a family band or going on a very intense field trip inside the human body. Not only are James and Jen are living the dream on their rehabbed school bus, they’re slowly winning over the toughest of home critics, their cat.

Before & After: Decking Out the Deck on a Budget
Spring has (maybe? hopefully!) sprung and now is the time to get outdoors. Natalie and her boyfriend recently moved in together and found themselves with a spare table that was a little worse for wear. Rather than toss it and buy all new deck furniture, they had the bright idea to give what they had a colorful upgrade and now they have a lovely outdoor space without breaking the bank. This old table had been in storage and was showing its age- stained, chipped and scratched.

Here’s What the New HomeGoods Store Is Called & When It’s Opening
Okay, HomeGoods fans, we’re one step closer to shopping at a new home store by the brand. TJX just announced the name of the new store, and when they’ll start opening. Back in February, we reported that TJX, the store’s parent company, had told investors that they were planning to introduce a new home store concept in addition to the ever popular HomeGoods. On Tuesday’s earnings call, TJX CEO Ernie Herrman gave the new store a name: HomeSense.

No Bidding Wars Here: Places Where You Can Find Homes at 2007 Prices
If you’re house hunting right now, you might lay awake at night wishing you had bought a few years ago instead—before prices went bananas and bidding wars came back into vogue. The good news is, in most of the country, you can still pick up a house for less than it would have cost in the mid-2000s. The national real estate market is unquestionably hot: Buyer demand continues to outpace the available inventory of homes for sale, which drove up prices another 6.

Come Sit By Me: Benches Available in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles
I have yet to meet a room that couldn’t benefit from a bench. From the foyer to the dining table to the end of the bed, a bench offers more than just a seat. Its simple design lends itself to multi-functionalism. It can be a coffee table, a landing spot or a display oppoortunity. Whether finished with tufted upholstery for a polished appearance or in raw wood to achieve industrial chicness, benches can fit every style.

What Would You Do with Customizable Wallpaper?
It’s a lovely idea to have a dedicated home office to keep work and life things separate. But it’s rarely a reality. What that means is that our “offices” often have to be carved out of another common space like the living room. When that’s the setup, you can make it work by creating a separate space so that “office stuff” has a defined space to live in. Make the space creative and inspiring, and the whole thing will work.

Julie’s Living Room Gets a Global Makeover: The After
A couple weeks ago, we met Julie, Victor, and Teo. The three of them live in an apartment that has great bones — light-filled rooms with beautiful ceiling beams. The problem was that their living room had both nothing and everything. The everything part was courtesy of Teo: His arrival was “the best thing ever,” Julie told us. “It seems like every day we accumulate more things and, in a small space, you really feel it.

Collectible IKEA: Some Vintage Pieces Are Auctioning for Up to $50,000
When one thinks of IKEA, the questions of “collectible” and “resale value” aren’t generally ones that come to mind. More like, “Will this last?” But IKEA pieces dating back to catalogs as early as 1944 (yes, our stylist friends were just as shocked as you are RN) all of a sudden are generating major buzz on the auction and estate sale market.

Let’s Reflect: Every Wall In This Arizona Condo Is Mirrored
You won’t know where one room ends and the next begins in this Arizona condo. Not because they’re particularly large spaces, but because every single vertical surface is covered in mirrors. Don’t believe me? See for yourself. We’ve definitely espoused the benefit of a mirror for a bit of small space trickery, but this owner may have gone a little overboard.

An Exciting New Furniture Trend That’s Actually Affordable
One of my favorite trends in furniture is the comeback of cane. I remember it from my grandparents’ house in the ’80s (sticking your fingers into the weave), but, paired with contemporary materials and worked into modern shapes, it can also feel very fresh and very new. And the good news is that, unlike a lot of other furniture trends, cane is fairly democratic, appearing in a lot of admittedly very expensive pieces, but also a few at the more modest end of the spectrum.

Before & After: The 2k, Get-With-the-Times Makeover of an Outdated ’80s Kitchen
If you were to make a list of kitchen essentials, it’s fair to say that “working oven” would be close to the top. Erica’s kitchen not only lacked the aforementioned necessity but was also chock full of heavy, dark ’80s design details. Her budget minded revamp helped give the kitchen a new airy look and some needed functionality. When I moved into my 1980s fixer upper home two years ago, one of the first projects was the kitchen.

Sleep Tight With the Right Nightstand for Every Budget
All hail the humble nightstand! As much as a comfy bed and light-blocking curtains are essential to a good night’s sleep, you can’t knock the impact that a nightstand can have on your relaxation time. It allows you to store a good book or crossword puzzle nearby in case you need to force a little drowsiness, keep your phone (which is probably also your alarm clock) close at hand, and find the perfect space to hide a midnight snack. So you definitely need one, but where to begin?

Rugs can be a royal pain.
