Before & After: A $200 Makeover Adds Color and Cheer to a Laundry Room
Like death and taxes, laundry is one of the near inescapable drudgeries of modern life. Kate figured if she has to spend time on it, she should do it in a space that doesn’t totally bum her out. With a few trips to Target, some leftover paint and oh-so-limited free time, she created a laundry room that injects a little cheer into a chore. New IKEA Commercial Calls FRAKTA “The Hardest Working Bag in the World”
After all the FRAKTA brouhaha, IKEA decided that the iconic bag needed its own tiny film. The company revealed a new cinematic ad for the under-a-dollar workhorse this week, and it’s definitely worth a watch. Can you believe it’s only been six weeks since Balenciaga started this whole FRAKTA thing with their $2K knockoff? Coincidentally, IKEA and their agency partner Acne have been working on this campaign since February. The ad is a result of that.

If one were to open a time capsule put together by a teen in the 1990s, chances are there would be a hefty collection of fragrances and lotions from Bath & Body Works. The retailer and mall staple has been tapping into that nostalgia by rereleasing formerly retired scents for a limited time, and this year’s collection will be sure to bring back many memories of adolescent shopping sprees and high school classrooms.

5 Homes for Rent in the Least Expensive City in America
Daydreaming is usually reserved for the impossible—such as musing about what it would be like to live in a giant penthouse in New York City when even a tiny studio is out of your budget, or to quit your job and travel the world without having to worry about a thing. But sometimes the things we don’t often think about as daydreams can become our biggest fantasies.

The Quote That Finally Changed My Mind on Minimalism
I’ve always had sort of a personal gripe with the minimalist movement. It’s a complicated cluster of feelings, but I can boil down my difficulty with minimalism into three words: I like stuff. I like having just the right glass for every drink (some of them thrifted and handed down through generations). I like collecting trinkets that remind me of people I’ve known, places I’ve been and things I’ve done.

You’ve just moved. You’re excited! You’ve taken the online quiz to find out if you’re a chesterfield or a mid-century modern. (Turns out you’re a camel back. Twist!) But hold up. 2017 is the Year of the Sofa
In my ramble through this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF — basically the design world’s answer to a runway show), I noticed something unusual: there were a lot of really, really great sofas. Usually the chair is the darling of the design world, presenting myriad ways to iterate. The sofa is a bit more of a challenge: it’s bigger, and because people think of it as a bit more of a practical piece, it needs to take into account comfort as well.
