Artist Tanya Aguiniga has created some incredible furniture art using sustainable materials with an attitude that reflects an appreciation for small scale and thoughtful design.

Los Angeles based furniture designer Tanya Aguiniga creates pieces that force users to "reconsider the objects they use on a daily basis."

Half chairs, nesting trays, felted furniture and other wonderful pieces require the user to think about the elements within his or her space. Working with negative space and shadows, Aguiniga's furniture often makes a greater impact on a space than might be expected. Aguiniga's small furniture pieces define a room with her level of craft and design without taking up valuable floor space.

Her socially and environmentally conscious furniture serves as a model for what could be considered heirloom quality pieces. Check out her collection on her website. While many of her pieces are custom and quite pricey they represent an investment in an idea that is about more than just furniture.
