Artist Aaron King's Textiles Are Not What They Seem

Artist Aaron King's Textiles Are Not What They Seem

When I saw these pink pieces by Aaron King, I giddily thought, "Those would be perfect with my (nonexistent) hot pink Navajo blankets!" Little did I know that his lovely rugs, wall-hangings, and cushions are actually made of cement…

The always-excellent Little Paper Planes recently featured the work of Aaron King, and I thank them heartily for that. I love the first two pink pieces, and the cushions in the fourth image make me think I might actually like a patterned couch. I envy whoever gets to own King's original work — what a presence these pieces must have in person! I also hope he teams up with a world-class textile company and starts creating actual rugs… or at least just the pink one.

Have you seen any artistic renderings of home goods that you dearly wish were actually usable? And does anybody own any cement art? How do you manage it?
