These Escape Room Kits Let You Experience All the Fun and Mystery from Home

After spending months inside at home, many of us would do anything to escape for a while. And if you find already find yourself making up a fictional escape plan, why not make it fun and with whoever you’re living with?

From getting out of a London art gallery to traveling back in time to 1869—and even running from a mad scientist who wants to turn you into a werewolf—these games will make for an evening of teamwork and cracking codes. All the fun of an escape room, but in your own living room.

Talking Tables sells an at-home kit called “Host Your Own Escape Room” that requires you to “use your lateral thinking to crack the codes before your time runs out.” When you and your household dive into the game, you find yourself trapped together in “one of London’s most exclusive art galleries,” as the game description on Uncommon Goods reads. You only have 60 minutes to find your way out of the gallery by way of cracking codes and solving riddles to find out where the exit is.

The “Host Your Own Escape Room” kit is best played with a group of 2 to 6 people as one person has to act as the mastermind and plant the clues.

For another puzzling adventure that comes in kit form, try “Escape the Room: Mystery at the Stargazer’s Manor” from ThinkFun. This time around, you’ve traveled back to 1869 and will have to use critical thinking and logic to find a missing astronomer. That’s the only way you’ll solve the mystery regarding what’s going on at his seemingly abandoned manor. Three to eight players are recommended for this one.

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more spooky this October, “The Werewolf Experiment” might be right up your alley. In this game, a mad scientist is threatening to turn you and your friends into werewolves, so you must escape his lab before time runs out and you become a monster. And if you happen to have an Amazon Alexa, this game can pair with your device so you can receive clues and help from there, too. The game says that its best to play with two to eight players.
