Austin Natural Inspiration: Big Red Sun
Adrienne is back with us today with some a great garden source for you Austinites! Tell us what you think!
Sometimes you just visit a space and the magic of it overtakes you. Couple that with cool plants, whimsical items and birds tweeting at you from behind cages and a trip to Big Red Sun is sure to leave you overwhelmed in the best of ways.
Nestled between homes on the East Side, Big Red Sun stands apart from its neighboring buildings with a big, bright, blue house and an amazing entryway of agave plants, cactus, flowers and huge lighted sticks. Passing through the giant gate door, it hits you: you’re about to experience something amazing.
You first walk into a yard full of plants for sale and rusted furniture to lounge on. A big greenhouse with more plants and helpful salespeople inside is in front of you, and to your left is the blue main house. You’ll be tempted to spend all of your time wandering around the seemingly endless gardens, poking plants and smelling flowers–but save some of your energy. Great surprises greet you in the main blue house, where you can sift through old and new furniture, lovely gift items, design books and even jewelry. The decor of the house is especially magical–the colors, the way the light filters through the windows—it’ll be hard not to purchase every beautiful thing you see. And because the retail portion is actually located in an old house, it’s easy to imagine these inspiring items taking up residence in your own home.
Along with a nursery full of beautiful plants and gorgeous retail items for sale, Big Red Sun also offers gardening and landscaping services, makes custom arrangements for weddings and events, builds custom pools and ponds, and offers Austin residents one of the most beautiful places to gather inspiration that I’ve ever seen.
