Taking energy efficiency to the next level appears to be the goal of this “energy positive” hotel that’s set to be constructed within the Arctic Circle. Design firm Snøhetta teamed up with a few other Norwegian companies to create a vision for the hotel that’s energetic output will surpass the resources it consumes over the span of its 60-year lifetime.

Amsterdam has a distinctive architecture style, but we can guarantee that this giant crane-turned-residence sticks out among the city’s livable structures – in a good way. Typically, old construction equipment and luxury don’t go hand in hand, but that’s the best way to describe this unique spot.

When it comes to unique aquatic escapes, the possibilities are endless thanks to an abundance of floating hotels around the world. The latest comes from Paris design firm Atelier Lavit, which has constructed a group of ten prefabricated hotel suites docked on a marine reserve near Avignon, a city in the southeastern region of France. Guests use a wooden ramp that goes from the shore to each of the suites. The rooms are constructed in either a circular or square shape.

Of all the extraordinarily creative seating options we’ve found and subsequently fawned over, this artistic indoor/outdoor armchair has to be one of our faves thus far. This unique seating option, known as Felix, is the result of a collaboration between industrial designer Christian Vivanco and furniture company Los Patrones.

Japanese artist ipnot is the nimble-fingered mastermind behind an amazingly detailed assortment of tiny, handmade embroidered foods. The extremely realistic designs range from a bowl of ramen and a sushi roll to tiny chocolates and apple and tomato slices.

We can safely say, we’ve never seen a rug quite like this. The boldly patterned rugs are a part of the Parquet collection, created by Swedish design group Front. While many are left pondering precisely WTH to do with parquet (like, is it in, or is it out… again?), Front decided to model a line of rugs after the classic geometric patterned flooring, and oddly enough, it works.

If you and your belongings plan on co-existing peacefully inside the tiny home of your dreams, it’s absolutely pertinent to come up with a game plan that will permanently reduce clutter. If you’re the kind of person who hates being hot, you might be sold on blö, a new product that claims to be the world’s first wearable cooling device and diffuser. Currently, there’s a Kickstarter campaign for the unique diffuser-fan combo, and it’s already surpassed its pledging goal, proving that many people are already blown away by it. According to the product description, blö is small, rechargeable, lightweight and portable.

Polar vortexes and bomb cyclones, beware: we’re thanking the design gods that someone had the presence of mind to create these cushy cuddle-worthy bear chairs. Based on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Parisian interior architect and designer Pierre Yovanovitch’s sheepskin-covered armchairs are seriously the most inviting, comfortable-looking seating options. File these chairs under furniture we could totally see ourselves napping on.

Here’s one eye-catching rental that you couldn’t miss even if you tried. Italian/Portuguese firm Mezzo Atelier designed a dazzling pink holiday rental on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, and we’re eager to join the visitor’s list. We already count pink as one of those rug colors that will work practically everywhere, but as it turns out, the vibrant hue also does wonders for a home’s exterior.

Our adoration for tiny homes knows no bounds, and this cozy Canadian earthship-inspired house on wheels is no exception. The construction of the humble abode took place after Steve completed a course on on Earthship Biotecture design and building in New Mexico. The tiny home on wheels is stylish, sustainable and extremely inviting. At a mere 140 square feet, the home comes equipped with a queen-sized bed, a kitchen with a vertical herb garden and a deck.

Portugal based architecture firm depA has wonderfully mastered the art of hiding in plain sight with the design of its reflective pavilion. The creatively camouflaged building is situated lakeside in Serralves Park, where it shares space with The Museum, the country’s leading contemporary art museum designed by Portuguese award-winning architect Álvaro Siza Vieira.

We’d be hard-pressed to think of a more thoughtful two-in-one design than this clever clock-emergency kit combo from Seoul design firm SWNA. Fittingly named the Life Clock, the eye-catching timekeeper comes equipped with a set of tools that are specifically tailored for use in case of a natural disaster.

The ocean has a well-deserved reputation as an instant mood calmer, so it’s no surprise that these ethereal glass and concrete sea sculptures by artist Ben Young have us feeling especially centered and relaxed. Young used bronze, concrete and laminated float glass to create the hand-cut pieces, which look like super realistic three-dimensional ocean topography diagrams. Each sculpture offers a unique perspective of the water’s surface as well as features of the ocean floor.

Here’s a real estate reprieve for homeowners who’ve been to hell and back with foundation problems: an unfolding modular house. Italian architect Renato Vidal partnered with Area Legno to manufacture “M.A.DI,” a tiny home that makes putting down your roots infinitely easier. For starters, the small, eco-friendly modular homes can be temporarily erected without a foundation, but a screw pile anchoring system can be utilized if needed.

For most adults with busy lives, it’s a privilege to be able to whisk oneself away from present company. Thankfully, Ukrainian design studio MZPA just made the act of finding some quiet space a lot easier with its super comfy, pro-privacy chair named “The Planet.” Reflective of its celestial-inspired moniker, the chair is shaped like an orb with a huge opening that gives the sitter the sensation of being the sole occupant of their very own world.

For years, visitors who have frequented Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion have marveled over the structure’s abundance of natural color, but the iconic building has recently undergone a major transformation to strip away the various hues and leave it with a more modern appearance. Over the course of a week, the building’s famous marble wall surfaces were clad in all-white vinyl screens.

If you’ve been searching high and low for eye-catching ways to spread some trippy vibes throughout your home, look no further than Color Flow, a mini-collection of monochromatic furniture from Seoul-based design studio Orijeen. Created in collaboration with Danish company e3light, Pantone’s Light Collection offers five styles to choose from including the drop pendants, pendant lamps, lamp shades, the “Antares” floor lamp and the “Capella” table lamp.
