It’s officially autumn. The leaves are turning yellow, the fragrance of pumpkin spice is in the air, and it’s time to unpack your favorite flannel — don’t forget about decorating your home for the fall season, though. In search of the perfect mix between yellow and orange to introduce into your living room? Here’s your solution.

Shortly after announcing their limited-time collaboration with Mattel to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Barbie’s Dreamhouse, Backdrop has revealed another collaboration with New York-based design retailer Coming Soon. As this year is coming to an end and color trends for 2023 have arrived, paint companies like Dutch Boy, Glidden, and Sherwin-Williams have shared their colors of the year. Ironically, Backdrop and Coming Soon chose to develop a paint color titled Color of the Year.

The vibrant yellow-orange shade is a result of the brands creating “a cheeky take on the design industry’s annual color trend forecasting tradition.” In a press release, Backdrop co-founder Natalie Ebel commented on their partnership with Coming Soon founders Helena Barquet and Fabiana Faria and their hopes to “spark some conversation and debate” with the shade.

“Since we launched Backdrop in 2018, we have always felt that paint is the most accessible and impactful way to transform a space,” Ebel said. “Rather than being driven by trends, the brand is based around a spirit of self-expression and a belief that color is a very personal choice for each of us. Why prescribe or dictate something like color of the year?”

Within the trophy titled ‘Color of the Year,’ the rubber bands spotted inside the item aren’t a mistake. After comparing the yellow-orange shade to a mix between a rubber band and a Bottega Veneta rain boot, Faria noted that it’s time to honor the office supply “in a world where rubber bands are disappearing.”

The shade is available to purchase in a custom-designed, co-branded collectible paint can for $45 for a half gallon and $69 for a gallon on Backdrop’s website and at Coming Soon’s New York retail location.
