Bang & Olufsen: High-End Home Theater & Audio

Have you ever read the Italian Diaobolik comics about the mod jewel thief whose underground lair is tricked out with surround sound and its own home theater system? We picture him shopping at Bang & Olufsen.

They’re a Danish company that makes mod speakers, laptops, flatscreens, subwoofers, and integrated sound & vision systems. It’s all very sexy, very shiny, and very expensive. We’re talking about a place where you could feasibly pay as much as $20,000 for a TV — although it would be more of an “integrated home theater” system with amazing sound that goes perfectly with your Jasper Morrison sofa, Noguchi lamps, and Mies van der Rohe house.

Bang & Olufsen products use a patented system which they call Acoustic Lens Technology that distributes sound horizontally through a specially designed ellipse-shaped cavity (aka the acoustic lens). If you’re an audiophile, you can read more about the details here.

The company has retail stores in many major U.S. cities, and they also sell online and through a network of dealer stores. (Find a store here.) For specific product reviews, check out the Unplggd archives (linked below).
