36 of the Best Bathroom Paint Colors We’ve Ever Seen
The bathroom has long-been a favorite spot for designers and design enthusiasts to experiment with color and pattern, as it is often hidden from the rest of the house. This means that the world is your oyster when it comes to selecting a color to paint your bathroom.
So whether you’re looking to create a high-impact, Instagram-worthy powder room or a spa-like retreat for your ensuite bath, at least one of these 33 bathroom paint color ideas are sure to speak to your needs. You’ll simply be amazed at what a fresh coat of paint can do to revamp your bathroom.
How to Choose the Best Bathroom Paint Color
With so many options out there, and a bathroom that’s pretty much a blank slate, how do you go about deciding which paint color to use? Below, we’ve listed some tips from Jennifer Guerin of JG Color Studios.
- Ensure the color works with your skin tone. “It may sound crazy, but certain colors can alter the appearance of your skin tone, creating chaos during your makeup routine. So know the hues that reflect best with your skin tone,” Guerin says.
- Select hues that harmonize with the existing elements. Statement-color or no statement-color, it needs to coordinate with the countertop, tile, and accessories, or it’s going to look disjointed.
- Decide on the vibe. Want moody? “Go deep with Eggplant, Chocolate or Charcoal,” Guerin advises. Want to keep it light and ethereal? “Light blushes such as Farrow and Ball Middleton Pink, Tricia Guild’s Cloud No. 62 or Tourmaline No 59 are your best bet.”
With these tips in mind, let’s take a look at some of our favorite bathroom paint colors.
1. Pink-Brown
This Barcelona bathroom is colorful and vibrant, yet serene. Though the orange vanity is the showstopper in this space, the pinkish-brown on the walls prevents it from being too loud. You can grab a similar shade with Sherwin Williams’ Brandywine.
2. Vibrant Green
This UK stone cottage bathroom evokes the best thing about the English countryside: the rolling, green hills. Bold green paneling pairs fabulously with the green plants that are strewn about the space. Recreate this look in your own bathroom with Sherwin Williams’ Talipot Palm.
3. Gray-Blue
This rich, grayish-blue hue in a Virginia townhouse bathroom gives off a deep sense of calm (important for busy mornings and spa-like evenings). Get the look with Sherwin Williams’ aptly named “Moody Blue.”
4. Light Brown
This bathroom in Barcelona is a palette of rich browns — from the patterned flooring to the brick on the walls to the light cocoa colored walls. Get this look in your very own bathroom using Dusted Truffle by Sherwin Williams.
5. Banana Yellow
Who says bathrooms have to be demure? This Florida bungalow bathroom has vibrant banana-yellow walls that make you want to get the day started. Get the look in your own bathroom with Sherwin Williams’ Funky Yellow.
6. Bright White
Charleston-based designer Megan Molten says you can never go wrong with a vivid shade of white to enliven your bathroom without relying on a dramatic color you may dislike in a few months. In fact, she created her own ideal shade, Sherwin Williams’ Megan Molten White, that she says is not too warm and not too cool.
“It reflects natural light so perfectly to create a beautiful, clean, and airy space, which are all the things you want your bathroom to be: The perfect retreat!” says Molten.
7. Cotton Candy Pink
This plant-filled Philadelphia home is full of retro touches and the bathroom is a prime example of all the ‘70s vibes happening here. The owners say this is their favorite room in the house because they were never able to paint in their former rentals. Snag a similar shade in Benjamin Moore’s Coral Dust.
8. Blue-Green
This ultra-cool London home is full of color and pattern, and the bathroom is no exception. Each wall in the space has a different look, from vintage-inspired tile to verdant wallpaper and a glossy blue-green coat of paint. Try Farrow & Ball’s Vardo for a similar look.
9. A Black Accent
A black accent wall makes the bathroom in this Melbourne home look extra sophisticated, while keeping other walls white ensures this sunny area stays fresh and bright looking. For a similar look, try Behr’s Night Club.
10. Coral Red
This North Carolina bathroom, featuring Sherwin Williams’ Ardent Coral, is bright and full of life. If there’s a color you love that you wouldn’t necessarily incorporate in a larger room of your home, consider testing it out in a space like a powder bath as a happy, experimental compromise.
11. Gray
Blogger Ashley Goldman of The Gold Hive used a gray shade of paint, specifically, Behr’s Antique Tin, in her space. “I chose the shade because I wanted a dark hue that was neutral yet bold,” she explains. “There’s so much white tile on the walls and the floors that I had a good opportunity to go for a deeper hue on the walls. The deep charcoal provides a modern contrast yet keeps with the classic style of the bathroom.”
12. Light Gray
Jenna Ratliff of At Home With Jenna used Sherwin Williams’ Network Gray in her cozy bathroom. The shade is an excellent neutral color that will allow you to fill the space with your favorite plants, wall art, and other decor without clashing.
13. Fuchsia
The Makerista’s Gwen wasn’t shy when painting this bathroom in Sherwin Williams’ Childlike. She shares plenty of tips on how to select the best paint color for a space in a blog post, saying, “Paint will present itself differently on different planes, so you want to be sure to have the samples upright, not laying on the ground. I look at them on each wall, in corners, during the day and at night,” she writes.
14. Cornflower Blue
What exactly is dreamier about this London bathroom — the pale pink clawfoot tub or the cornflower blue wainscoting and matching vanity? These colors playfully intermingle in this space in the best way. Recreate the wainscoting and vanity colors with Sherwin Williams’ Daphne.
15. Robin Egg Blue
It’s only fitting that the bathroom in this California craftsman features a robin’s egg blue paint, like Clare’s Views. While the space is small, the mix of patterns, colors, and textures doesn’t feel too busy.
16. Powder Blue
Sarah Gibson of Room for Tuesday used a powder blue in her bathroom, noting, “After feeling bored with neutral spaces, I really wanted to implement a punch of color. It isn’t too saturated and I think it will withstand the test of time!” Gibson used Sherwin Williams’ Sleepy Blue on the walls and Languid Blue for the door.
17. Light Pink
Light pink pairs beautifully with plants and other green accents, as seen in this Washington, D.C. house. This bathroom just feels clean and cheerful with its mix of bright colors and decorative pieces. Recreate the look with Farrow and Ball’s Middleton Pink.
18. Pink, Black, and White
Ariel Garneau of PMQ for Two offset a peach like Behr’s Flamingo Feather with an oh-so-chic black trim. “We were inspired by many simple spaces with a hint of retro,” Ariel says. “Nothing is more retro than a pink bathroom with black border tile. Since we were renting at the time, we found a solution to our design woes by painting some beadboard in this lovely punchy shade of pink.”
19. Light Yellow
Light yellow is no longer preserved for beach houses and baby nurseries. This modern farmhouse proves that it’s a totally viable bathroom paint option in any style house or room. Get the look with a light lemon shade like Benjamin Moore’s Light Yellow.
20. Dark Blue-Green
Blogger Tracey Amadio of Porch Daydreamer repainted her bathroom using Behr’s Blueprint to create a coastal look. “Since this is a very small room, I chose the deep blue to help create visual impact,” she says. “Dark paint colors create an optical illusion visually pushing the walls back making the space appear larger and more substantial.”
21. Magenta
Magenta paint certainly isn’t a common choice, particularly in a bathroom, but we love the spunk it adds here. Sherwin Williams’ Juneberry is a close match to the paint color in the bathroom of this Chicago home and a piece of abstract art ties everything together.
22. White and Light Blue
In a sea of color, there’s nothing wrong with opting for plain white as blogger Erin Kestenbaum did during her One Room Challenge. Kestenbaum selected Benjamin Moore’s Decorator’s White, and says, “Using a crisp, bright white on the walls visually expands the room when combined with lots of light streaming into the space. I also wanted to use white on the walls to create a gallery experience that draws your focus to the abstract art, bold blue vanity, and the luxe marble shower.”
23. Green and White
Go green, get clean. This bathroom in a breezy Spanish house features a green accent wall that spices up the space without completely overpowering it, ensuring an inspiring retreat. Get the look with Sherwin Williams’ Privilege Green.
24. Navy
Ready to go to the dark side? Douse your bathroom in a moody navy blue. This Michigan home features a coat of Benjamin Moore’s Polo Blue, which pops against the white subway tile and abundance of bright green plants.
25. Bright Green
Let’s face it: A bright green bathroom, like the one in this Portland house, isn’t for design wallflowers. However, if you want to pack a punch to your space, green is bound to get the job done in style. Recreate the look in your own home with Benjamin Moore’s Traffic Light Green.
26. All Black
“People tend to shy away from black shades on walls for fear of making a space feel smaller, but that shouldn’t be a hard and fast rule,” says designer Breegan Jane. “Selecting the right shade and styling the space well can actually achieve the opposite effect!”
One of her favorite black paint colors is Glidden’s Onyx Black, which the designer says is a favorite for pairing with golden metallics. Jane notes that this color will ensure your bathroom feels like a luxurious surprise for all who enter.
27. Blue
Torn between wallpaper and paint? Turns out, there’s plenty of room for both. The owner of this whimsical London flat painted one wall and covered the other in a sweet printed paper. A shade like Sherwin-Williams’ Morning Glory matches the tropical Jane Clayton wallpaper.
28. Yellow-Gold
Go ahead, bring a splash of color to a room where the sun doesn’t shine. This D.C. abode features a small bathroom that is cleverly painted a cheery yellow to liven up the space. Recreate the look in your home with Sherwin-Williams’ Eye Catching.
29. White with a Blue Undertone
Don’t want to make a statement with a bold hue, but not willing to settle for white? Opt for Valspar’s Morning Lake. As seen in this South Carolina house, this shade will warm up your space without overpowering the rest of the room.
30. Coral and White
We’ll be the first ones to admit that a bright, reddish coral is by no means subtle. However, if you want to incorporate the color in a small bathroom, pair the hue with crisp white tiles, as shown in this Austin abode. Try your luck with a punchy pigment like Behr’s Red Coral.
31. Orange
Orange is one of the most underrated shades on the color wheel and becoming a more popular hues of choice by designers these days. And when you choose a sunny shade like Sherwin-Williams’ Gusto Gold in this Chicago house, it can be the MVP of your entire design scheme.
32. Black Ceiling
Working with a bathroom that’s covered in tile? Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. The owners of this Arizona abode made the most of their bathroom by painting the ceiling a moody black. Give this look a try with Clare’s Blackish.
33. Purple and Lavender
Give your space the royal treatment with a delicate, regal shade of lavender, as seen in Jewel Marlowe’s Rhode Island home. Trust us, a color like Farrow & Ball’s Calluna is just what your bathroom needs to make a stylish statement.
34. Forest Green
Want to take your bathroom color scheme to the next level? Opt for a moody shade that will make your guests green with envy. In this budget-friendly renovation, for example, Valspar’s Sherwood Forest spices up the small space.
35. Peach
Believe it or not, a soft, barely-there peach hue can make a major statement. Since most of this Australian abode is painted a pristine white, a shade like Clare’s Wing It can act as a breath of fresh air.
36. True White
When your walls are covered with towel racks, framed pictures, and plants galore—like in this Chicago home—a crisp white becomes a blank canvas for all your accouterments. Having a hard time choosing the right white? Opt for Benjamin Moore’s versatile Simply White that will match all your collected decor.
