Bed Bath and Beyond Is Helping Remote College Kids Turn Their Childhood Bedrooms into Dorm-Like Spaces
While some colleges and universities are allowing students to physically return to campus this fall, others are going remote for at least the beginning of the school year due to COVID-19. To help the latter group of students, Bed Bath & Beyond launched College from Home, a shopping experience that’ll help college kids try to transform their bedroom into a veritable dorm/campus living situation, on Aug. 11.
The site offers “virtual learning and study at home essentials” such as organization tools, lap desks, and bedding. In an effort to bring college vibes to home, the section also provides fun accessories that are dorm room must-haves—from photo displays to removable wall hooks and peel-and-stick wall decal.
“Shopping for and decorating a dorm room is a rite of passage for college-bound students and College from Home provides inspiration to design a stylish and functional bedroom that feels like college,” the Bed Bath & Beyond statement reads.
The company teamed up with interior design portal Decorist to help students figure out their ideal dorm style through an interactive quiz. There are also design services available that connect you with a Decorist professional who can help offer additional advice when transforming a room.
The design team over at Decorist also curated several room examples (like the above “Modern Glam” layout) to inspire parents and students before launching into their makeover.
Cindy Davis, Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer of Bed Bath & Beyond and President of Decorist, said in a statement, “In our survey of college students, about seven in ten students say decorating their dorm is important to them, and their dorm decor is an expression of self. Students shared they seek to create a space to feel ‘at home’ which is our core brand purpose and what we want to help them achieve with these inspirational designs.”
Even though “back to school” isn’t going to feel exactly like college students expected it would, Bed Bath & Beyond is doing the most to make the process feel as normal and exciting as possible.
