You Can Trade In Toys ‘R’ Us Gift Cards at Bed Bath & Beyond, But There’s A Catch

If you (and your childhood) were devastated by the news last month that Toys ‘R’ Us is going out of business and plans to shutter all U.S. locations this year, you’re not alone. But on a practical note, what can you do if you have any gift cards? Bed Bath & Beyond has a solution—but it comes with a catch.

On April 21, Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us will stop accepting gift cards in store, and with online shopping for the brands already shut down, customers are left with few options if they don’t live near a remaining location, according to NBC Washington.

Thankfully, it doesn’t mean the cards are totally useless—Bed Bath & Beyond is offering a trade in option for the retailers’ gift cards. Any card, as long as it has at least $20 left in value, can be traded for an e-gift card to Bed Bath & Beyond.

Sadly, they’re not turning over face value for the trade-ins. A Toys ‘R’ Us or Babies ‘R’ Us card will net you a little over 64 percent of its balance; a $25 card will get you $16.05, $50 will get you $32.10, and $100 will get you $64.20.

If you have a bunch of other unused gift cards that you’d rather trade in to get yourself some stylish furniture or make the most of those ubiquitous coupons, Bed Bath & Beyond’s Card Cash program will work for those, too—over 200 merchants are accepted, and the rates vary by retailer, from roughly 53 percent to 95 percent.
