Our clients, Wesley and Carol, are young professionals who both have eclectic and fun taste. Their home is in the great St. Matthews neighborhood and this is the first big renovation they’ve taken on there. They were open to some really interesting art and furniture combinations. Our goal was to mix his love for mid-century style and her love of feminine looks and gold colors. I think we found a nice balance and created a warm and inviting space that they enjoy spending time in more than just for sleeping. In the bathroom, selecting unique tile combinations and a mid-century vanity, along with making plenty of space by choosing a massive shower, has made this one of their new favorite rooms!

My Style: Eclectic, mid-century

Inspiration: We wanted the master suite to be a comfortable place to escape—no screens, minimal technology. The windows bring in a bunch of light and in the evening it creates a beautiful glow—we wanted the design to embrace the lines of the room and the natural light.

Favorite Element: The paint color selections and color blocking. We love dark color, but didn’t know how to incorporate it into the room because of the odd slope of the ceilings. Amanda and Jaclyn’s idea of using color blocking really helped open the space up and still incorporated color. We also REALLY love the sconces!

Biggest Challenge: Getting the large glass up the stairwell for the shower, followed by needing to open up the door frame to get it upstairs—which we now love more! Also we had a mid-project hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. Wes and I had to relocate to the downstairs guest rooms and ended up in separate beds because the three of us (Ripley too) had become accustomed to a king-sized bed.

Biggest Indulgence: The bathroom
