Before & After: The “2K Goes a Long Way” Kitchen Facelift

This “before” kitchen shot needs no explanation, nor serious questioning about its readiness for an update. It looks like a room from a bygone era with dated and peeling wallpaper and linoleum tile. It’s subsequent makeover is refreshing and do-able.

Reddit user High Volkage didn’t rip everything out and start from scratch. Instead, he repainted the original cabinets, tiled the backsplash with basic subway tiles, and installed vinyl tiles on the floor. Warm wood countertops and island offset all the white.

Here’s something interesting: High Volkage grouted the peel and stick vinyl tiles to make them look like ceramic. He says more than one person has been fooled after walking in the room.
