My room makeover::
My parents bought this house as an investment property and my roommate and I are renting the house from them. When the house was purchased, we knew a few big things were going to need to be renovated. My stepfather is a contractor, so he did all of the work by himself which certainly helped with the cost. He has also allowed us to voice ideas/wants and be a part of the decision making process, yay!

Initially we were going to leave the cabinets in place but we realized the cabinets were in bad shape and that there were 2 windows that had been walled over. After removing the cabinets we realized that the walls were in terrible shape and a lot of the wood had rotted where the used to be a window A/C unit. There also used to be a washer & dryer in the kitchen and we wanted to use that space for a breakfast nook. Needless to say the kitchen remodel ended up taking much longer than expected and cost more than expected, but we are thrilled with the results.
My makeover advice::
Roll with the punches. When you are remodeling (especially an older home), you have to prepare for the worst. Budget extra for the surprises that will come along.
What I love most about my new space::
The wood counter tops and the breakfast nook.
