My room makeover::
After 25 years in a walk up with the tub in the kitchen, a real bathroom was a dream. I designed it myself. The marble sink arrived scratched and the manufacturer refused to take it back. The contractor refused to install the sink because the pipes weren't aligned. He installed the blue tiles crooked and had to redo it. The gap between the tiles and the tub weren't grouted right. He chipped my new tub. After a pep talk from a designer friend, a contractor relative agreed to help. He fixed the scratched marble and I got my credit card insurance to pay for it. He configured the pipe, installed the sink, centered the light above, reframed the mirror vanity and filled in half the grout. My husband finished the job -- he installed the new inset mirror, finished & sealed the grout, fixed the chip in the tub with paint special ordered from American Standard, installed the sink backsplash and repainted the walls.
My makeover advice::
When items arrive, open them immediately to check for damage and call the manufacturer right away. In fact, it's better to check before the delivery guy leaves so you can refuse to accept it if it's damaged. and don't leave that to the contractor, do it yourself.
What I love most about my new space::
It's refreshing and beautiful. I love taking a bath in the deep tub. I also love the niche.
