My room makeover::
I love my townhouse because it’s filled with natural light from many windows and the glass sliding doors. The place has open floor plan: living/dining combo with the kitchen on one side.

However, the original kitchen was outdated: the rounded laminate countertop, overhang cabinets, 20+ year old appliances, and tile floor. The dining room is also separated from the kitchen because of the overhang cabinets and the oversized bar.

I shook hands with the first contractor I found, presented my design and ran with it. The process took 4 weeks including consultation, design and shopping. In the end, everything came together nicely and I absolutely love it.

The work truly opened up my kitchen to the rest of the space. I can cook and entertain my guests at the same time. A dining height "sushi-bar" provided a more intimate dinning setting. I had a lot of fun fabricating the bar: from sourcing the slab of wood to cutting, sanding and finishing.
My makeover advice::
Be patient, realistic and definitely have extra money for unplanned expenses. Do a lot of research (including looking at ApartmentTherapy website).
What I love most about my new space::
Other than the spacious feeling and the sushi bar, it is the fact that the space reflect myself. Out of all the compliments I have received, my favorite was: "This kitchen is so you! Your previous kitchen was nice (not bad) but I just could not imagine you cooking in it."
