My room makeover::
The mud room is at the very back of our house. I don’t think the previous owners used it as an access to the back yard at all because the windows were boarded up and the doors were very old and almost impossible to open. I definitely wanted to start using it as soon as possible when we moved in!

I discovered beautiful old windows under the boards and replaced the dense wood doors with ones with windows, yay light!

Walls and frames were painted a glossy white and the old stained lino was replaced with new vinyl. We built a custom bench and voilà!

Outside Door: Architectural Clearinghouse ($55)
Inside Door: Architectural Clearinghouse: double pane and insulated ($75)
Flooring: BFC Flooring, extra vinyl from their warehouse; $20 total and they threw in the glue for free.
Hooks: reused painted hooks
Bench: Custom made
Wire Baskets: HomeSense
Hanging plant: Tin Ikea planter 2$ from yard sale, painted white.
My makeover advice::
Don't be afraid to uncover things if they have been boarded up or bolted shut! If you have a small floor surface area to replace, ask flooring stores to see their scraps - often they will have left overs in small batches that they will be happy to give to you for cheap.
What I love most about my new space::
I love the brightness of the space and afternoon light that comes through the doors and shines into our long hallway. I love how functional the space is and that we now have easy access to our backyard.
