My room makeover::
When I started decorating my bedroom, I initially embarked on a somewhat involved stencil treatment to try to achieve a glamorous yet calming look. It was very labor intensive and I never completed the project...and like many before me, I resigned myself to a half done design. After we had a leak from the apt above, the walls had to be fixed. Since my stencil was ruined in some areas, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to start over. After some agonizing, I decided to take the plunge and commit to wallpaper! Once I made the big decision and ordered the wallpaper (from Ebay), I was feeling quite fearless. Why not a go for a gold ceiling as well?? I hired a contractor from Craigslist to hang the wallpaper, purchased the Ralph Lauren Cloth of Gold paint from Home Depot and got to work. Throw in some DIY projects, updated furnishings and accessories, and I could not be more pleased with the way the room turned out.
My makeover advice::
If you are a renter, don't be afraid to make changes(within the constraints of your lease of course). We are sometimes too concerned with the idea that the space doesn't belong to us. If you are going to call a place home, it should be a reflection of who you are...especially if you plan to inhabit that home for some time. There are so many temporary and DIY solutions available today. Don't be afraid to make a design decision that could make a huge impact and ultimately make you happier in your space. Yes, I will have to repaint my ceiling when I leave. But for now, I'm thoroughly happy looking up at it every night!
What I love most about my new space::
I honestly love everything about my new space and smile every time I enter the room. It feels very glamorous and authentic to me. It reminds me to take risks in design because they can have a huge payoff. It also reminds me that while I may not be the most experienced DIY'er, I do have some serious skills and am capable of quite a bit.
