- My room makeover::
- When we bought our house 2 years ago, the kitchen hadn't been renovated since it was built in 1979. First and foremost we wanted a practical kitchen on a tight budget. To fit in the appliances without huge bills from plumbers and electricians, we lost 60cms of laundry room. We had planned to run the oak flooring we have in the rest of the house right through the kitchen, but found that we couldn't without having a step up into the kitchen. Vinyl in a similar tone came to our rescue and when baby tips water over the floor, I'm so glad we did that! We wanted to stand out from the crowd just a little bit, but not too much (in Norway 'the crowd' has white cabinets and black counters). As the kitchen gets poor light, we went for a warm, light colour palette. We also wanted to reference the house's 70s origins rather than fight them. Units, worktop and microwave are IKEA. The wallpaper is Zoffany 'Spark'. The blinds are homemade with fabric from Stoff og Stil.
- My makeover advice::
- Think about practicality and what 'fits' in your house before you start falling in love with trends! Enjoy the journey as well as the result. If you are working on a project together with your spouse/partner, appreciate their hard work.
- What I love most about my new space::
- Most of all I love that it is easy to cook in and easy to keep tidy!
