- My room makeover::
- Our third floor is one giant space, used partly as a guest room and playroom. The previous owners painted it a blah color (which I call "Creamy Nicotine") and the carpeting was old and gross. It didn't feel like a fun space. I had some time on my hands to finally paint the room which became ripping up carpet and replacing it which became changing out the "built in" dressers for cubby holes (and adding a "secret room" in the crawlspace behind a third "built in" dresser). I can't just simply paint a wall.
It took two months-I could only work on it when my babies were sleeping. A friend helped so I had to wait on his schedule too. Total cost was about $2500, which included the Flor carpet, drywall and bead board for the secret room, three kallax bookshelves which became the two cubbies and the bedside table for the guest area and the paint.
- My makeover advice::
- Try to fully plan it out in advance. I didn't do that, instead adding on a thing here or there as we went, and it would've been smoother and cheaper to have planned it beginning to end. Know yourself.. are you like me where if you say you're just going to paint but then you can't just let paint be paint and must redo the whole space? A little self-reflection would've saved me a lot of time and money.
- What I love most about my new space::
- I love that it's fresh and clean and bright and fun. I love that it's a place that my kids know is just for them. And I love looking at it and knowing "I did that."
I blogged about it here: Boogers and Toots
