Courtney found her ideal furniture at a thrift store, but it needed a little work. Combine DIY skills and a very generous birthday present, and you get a very cool dream come true.

From Courtney: I’ve always loved and coveted two kinds of tables: a formica table and a pedestal table. As luck would have it, I found both on the same day at a thrift store. Only problem was the pedestal table and chairs were less than ideal with mauve velvet seats and a glass tabletop that looked outdated and simply wasn’t my style.

To fix the seating, I ended up removing the chair cushions and mixing textile mediums with chalk paint before getting rid of the awful mauve. It took a solid week of painting every night after to work to fully hide the old color.

I wasn’t sure what to do about the glass tabletop but mentioned to my dad that I wished I could have a wooden top for it. On my birthday a few months later, he surprised me with a wooden tabletop to go with my freshly black chairs! No more glass, no more mauve, and it was all less than $100.

Thank you, Courtney!
