Before & After: Barren Terrace Becomes Green Sanctuary

Before & After: Barren Terrace Becomes Green Sanctuary

Christopher and Christine Cornell's 200-square foot terrace looked like this before they hired Douglas Fanning (a green builder and furniture designer) to breathe some new life into it. They had just envisioned a few chairs and a few hanging plants, but what they got was ...

... a totally redesigned, gorgeous, green space.

Fanning calls the terrace a "green roof with no roof."

He gave the the terrace a cedar plank flooring, and framed the whole thing with custom built planters. He also added six-and-a-half-foot box beams that hold more planters (which obviously hold edibles). The bricks he used on the walls are from an earlier renovation to the building.
