Before & After: Help for a Flipped Kitchen Built With Zero Drawers
Becky’s kitchen had been previously renovated by a house flipper who may not have been thinking things through. There weren’t any drawers. In a kitchen. Becky tried to make do with that temporary storage cart you can see above, but she knew it was time for a better solution.
From Becky: Our kitchen was done by a house flipper in which zero drawer units were included. I had purchased a cart as a temporary solution and immediately discovered it didn’t fit our needs. It wouldn’t hold a silverware tray nor would it hold much of anything. It was wobbly and unattractive.
We absolutely needed drawers in our kitchen and it had always been a plan to design and build some. Timing and life such as it was, it took a while to get the project completed.
I finally had a chance to draw up designs, sending my favorite trio for the husband stamp of approval. As I was working full time on a television show, I did not have the time to build them myself. Thankfully our construction crew had a window of opportunity and they kindly agreed to build them for me. Once they were built, it took less than a week for me to get the drawer unit stained, finished, and then installed with a helping hand from my husband, Mike. The biggest surprise was how heavy the unit was; my husband and I struggled getting it out of my car for sure.
I love everything about the after. We finally have drawers that hold everything, and they have also freed up space in other places around the kitchen and pantry. Using the cut off extra length of the butcher block counter, I installed a shelf above and hung our spices in jars underneath. This drawer unit has at last made our kitchen functional. The only thing I might have done differently is adjusted the drawer sizes just a hair. Regardless, it has made our lives infinitely better.
