The 2018 Color of the Year Trend Predictions Begin: BEHR’s Top Picks
If you’re scratching your head trying to figure out a paint color that will look fresh for a few years to come, you’re in luck. Whether you’re out to discover a new swatch for your living room, your bedroom or even your mud room, premium paint co. BEHR just released its 2018 trend forecast, including *the* color that’s sure to dominate very soon.
Earlier this week, BEHR opened a pop-up home right inside Grand Central Station, where design junkies (and your average busy New Yorker alike) could experience the trend forecasts in a re-created home alongside some pretty unique design and decor elements. Providing endless inspiration for decorating projects, the immersive experience brought 2018’s trendiest colors to life right in the middle of one of New York’s finest landmarks. And we were there to get the scoop.
“Each year, our team is inspired by what’s happening in the world around us and how color comes to life in new ways — in fashion, pop culture, travel, home décor and more,” said Erika Woelfel, color expert for BEHR. “We spend months imagining a palette filled with colors that will reflect what’s to come. This year, we were specifically drawn to lifestyle trends of awareness, mindful living and the Danish concept of hygge — the feeling of cozy, comfortable conviviality and well-being.”
To honor that, BEHR selected blue-green hue In the Moment (T18-15) as its first-ever Color of the Year alongside a corresponding trend palette that is meant to restore balance and our presence in a hyper-connected and sometimes unfocused world.
Rounding out the list were soft, soothing shades with great names like Soft Focus, Kombucha, Off the Grid, and Equilibrium that will instantly change the mood of any room — take a look for yourself.
Should you decide to commit to 2018’s Color of the Year, Woelfel says you should consider letting it serve as a neutral next to bold accent hues like tangerine orange or a deep, woodsy green, or pairing In the Moment with other blues to create a modern, coastal vibe.
But regardless of which color you choose, Woelfel advises that in the year to come, taking risks with hi-gloss sheens for full accent walls or considering your ceiling as “the fifth wall” worthy of some color can innovate the design of your home simply just by using paint.
