As I was doing a little research on the end-of-bed bench for this roundup, I stumbled upon the most perfect explanation from designer and blogger Emily Henderson of why, if you have the room, everyone should have one. “Having the right bench is like having a nice belt – it’s not something you want to spend money on, but you need it. Every day when you get dressed, you grab for it, feel it missing, and wish you had one.” It’s the perfect spot for the “plop and drop” of your daily dressing regiment, a perch to help you get on your shoes, pants, tights (or tight pants).

End of bed benches are also inexplicably expensive at times, so we did some homework and rounded up nine under $250. Check them out!

Retro, neutral and simple, technically a dining bench, but perfectly suited to grace the foot of your bed or entryway, as well.

Dimensions: 17.55″ H x 40.95″ W x 15.21″ D

A sweet mid-century silhouette in a fresh fuchsia. Also available in yellow and blue.

Dimensions: 16” H x 46” W x 18” D

The individual cushions of this charcoal linen bench lift up to reveal storage compartments for stashing away whatever you don’t want in plain sight.

Dimensions: 20″ H x 46″ W

Our Previous Lists:

Another storage bench, but this time on casters so you could easily move it out of the way if need be. Also available in gray.

Dimensions: 16.8″ H x 46″ W x 16″ D

I love the look of a slatted wood bench. It adds a certain earthiness and Zen quality to any room it occupies. Also available in black.

Dimensions: 14” H x 48” W x 14” D

Tufting, nailheads, spindle legs, casters: It doesn’t get much more traditional than this bench from Lamps Plus. It’s just wider than a Queen-sized bed, so consider this one if you have a King mattress (or use it in an extra-long hallway/foyer).

Dimensions: 17.75″ H x 62″ W x 19.75″ D

Other Good Resources:

If you love the look of Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona line but just can’t quite spring for the hefty price tag, consider this similar style daybed/bench available via Overstock.

Dimensions: 15.5″ H x 50″ W x 18″ D

Just as wide as a standard Queen mattress, though I could also see this in a hallway underneath an oversize piece of art.

Dimensions: 18″ H x 60″ W x 16″ D

Even the most modern of homes can benefit from a little French styling thrown into the mix. Also available in plum velvet, gray velvet, charcoal linen and a cowhide-like velvet.

Dimensions: 19″ H x 48″ W x 18″ D
