1. Death Wish Coffee, $19 for a 16-ounce bag: Described as “just plain fun” by John Thomassen — owner of Brooklyn’s Marine Park Coffee — Death Wish Coffee is a smooth, dark-roast coffee that also calls itself “the world’s strongest” cup of Joe. We’ll leave it to you to decide whether that’s true or not, but in any case, Thomassen throws the full weight of his expertise behind the brand. “Death Wish Coffee has a unique flavor profile all its own, and is bold enough to be paired alongside an equally bold maduro cigar or peaty Scotch,” he tells us.
2. Blue Bottle Coffee Three Africas Blend, $35 for a 12-ounce bag: This recommendation comes to you from Lindsey Reason, barista at Marshall’s Landing in Chicago.
