Indoor/outdoor rugs have exploded in the past five years as makers have found beautiful ways to weave weatherproof materials into attractive, useful rugs. Now you can dress up your out of door spaces with color and pattern, as well as using these things in hard working indoor spaces like kitchens and hallways without worry.
One of my favorites are the bright modern designs of Brita of Sweden (above) which I use in my kitchen and hallway and LOVE. They are made of recycled plastic, which doesn't sound good, but are lovely, soft and warm underfoot. I totally recommend checking them out, along with my other top choices below...
- Zadie Rug - From $179
Yes, it's a faux, outdoor zebra rug!!! Hooked out of 100% polypropylene, this rug is actually tufted and "meticulously" treated to withstand UV rays and rain. Loloi Rugs is the design source here and Wayfair the retailer - you can see the whole Zadie range on Wayfair here.
- Two-Tone Rope Indoor/Outdoor Rug - From $95
Designed by Anne Selke for Dash & Albert, this is a chunky, woven summer rug in fresh blue and white, but, guess what? it now comes in 12 colorways. 100% polypropylene and it can be cleaned by spraying it down with a hose.
- Rain Collection - From $65
From Surya and also hooked in 100% polypropylene, the Rain collection is extensive, but I found this bold floral pattern (which comes in red and blue) to be my fave. There are three shapes, including a runner and a round, which is below the link above.
- Hamptons All-Weather Rug - From $195
Flat woven in a bright blue and white stripe in the style of a durrie, this fresh take is from Serena and Lily. It comes in three other colorways.
- 100% polyester.
- Handwoven in India.
- Cambridge SynSisal - $63 per square yard
Curran was one of the first to bring synthetic sisal to the States, and their current selection is extensive. Cambridge is a beautiful year round design that looks like real sisal but isn't. This can be ordered as wall to wall or bound as an area rug: "If you are looking for the sisal look without the worry of spills, cleaning etc, then look no further. Cambridge is one of the most realistic SynSisal weaves on the market. Woven in Belgium, this 100% polypropylene weave is almost impossible to detect that it is not the real thing. Designed for use indoors or out, we prefer it for indoors."
- Braided Racetrack Rug - From $49
Go LL Bean! From the folks who floored me years ago with their great big oval braided rugs, they now do an all weather version that can be sprayed down with a hose. This Racetrack rug comes in three colorways and four sizes. It is 100% polypropylene.
