Emma loves Hello Kitty and specifically asked for a Hello Kitty birthday party. We decided to have a Hello Kitty picnic in the park.

We bought the gingham party supplies; plates, napkins, cups, little Hello Kitty favors etc. from Party City. The cake and all the food was homemade, we made little white chocolate pretzels with Hello Kitty icing bows. The cake, is a homemade three layer strawberry vanilla cake with strawberry filling and a buttercream frosting, funnily it melted while on the way to the party because of the summer heat, so I refrosted it there. The cake topper was a jerry-rigged keychain I found at Target and filed down the clasp at the top to make it work.

We made little favor Hello Kitty bows out of felt and hair clips, that they could wear in their hair and clipped them to little kraft bags of goodies for take-homes. My family is Hispanic and there isn't a birthday that goes by without a pinata, and usually made from scratch, this one was made by my sister for the occasion and we glued on construction paper Hello Kitty features.

The birthday banner and the mini cake name banner where made from some Kraft paper I had lying around. The great thing about having it at the park was that it was free and there was an awesome playground to keep the kids having fun the whole time. Frugal and fun and all in all a very fun party for a five year old and her friends.

What fun - thanks Ellie! Readers, say hello to Ellie on her blog.
