Choosing a birthday party theme for boy/girl twins definitely has its challenges but we recently found great success with a handmade woodland fairy and gnome adventure for Emma and Elliot's fourth birthday.

The party began with the childrens' first lesson in orienteering - a hand drawn map of our property. The adventure took them on a walk through the Bamboo Forest, under the Old Pine Tree, and across the Log Bridge, finding hidden treasures along the way - fairy wings and magic wands for the girls, red felt hats and sanded walking sticks for the boys. There was a stop in the Tea Garden for hibiscus tea, a visit to Mr. Bear's cabin, and being the middle of July in Tennessee, water play in the "Magic Waterfall" (a 50 foot Wahii slip-n-slide).

The gnome and fairy sized table was set for a feast with moss placemats, stone place cards, bamboo plates, and cloth napkins made from cute woodland fabric by Natalie Lymer. The menu consisted of little cups of drinkable Gazpacho, glassine wrapped pimento cheese sandwiches for the kids, muffulettas for the grownups, and tomato lollipops using colorful cherry tomatoes from the farmer's market. Libations included Watermelon Agua Fresca, cucumber water, French Rosé and growlers of local ales. For dessert, adorable toadstool cupcakes and a big basket of cherries.

In lieu of a typical party favor, the intrepid little adventurers headed home with a handcrafted bedtime story that included many elements of their day in the Enchanted Forest Hills.

We lovingly crafted many special mementos and props for the occasion: a low dining table that seated 15 little ones, little stump stools for chairs, hiking sticks, acorn necklaces, cloth toadstool napkins, and a special log sanded and drilled just right for holding tomato lollipops. Emma and Elliot participated in much of the preparation from stringing acorn necklaces to gluing fairy wands to making pimento cheese. It was a lot of fun (the party and the preparation) and such a memorable time to share our creation with family and friends!
