It’s a new year, the January Cure is officially on, and you’re probably thinking about decluttering and organization. And let’s be honest: Adapting to a more organized lifestyle comes with plenty of challenges and can absolutely feel overwhelming at first, so it’s smart to implement small solutions to keep you on track. One method? Investing in a humble yet mighty label maker.

When bins, shelves, drawers, and jars have a label, it becomes much easier to ensure things get put back in their rightful homes, to be found again easily for future use. Need to differentiate which bin is for chargers and which bin is for tools? Label it. Need to mark which homemade cleaning solution is which? Label it. Need to affix a name to a child’s sweatshirt or uniform so it makes it back home? Label it. (Want more ideas? We’ve got you covered.)

As you’ve probably guessed, Amazon is full of label makers, but we found one that’s simple, highly rated, and, at the moment, discounted by 35 percent. The Brother P-Touch label maker is Amazon’s Choice, with over 2,000 5-star reviews, and you can get it for under $25 right now.

If you want to get creative with your labelling, this is the option for you. With 14 fonts, 27 templates, 97 frames, and more than 600 symbols, the PT-D210 lets you add a personal touch to your labels. (Although you can stick with the classic black-and-white style if that’s your preference.) Adorn your summer storage bins with sun symbols, add festive borders to pantry baskets or food canisters, and tag your accessories in pretty fonts to keep track of which water bottle belongs to whom.

But be wary, because once you start, it can be hard to stop.

“Aside from labeling almost every part of my house I also made little tags to place on my belongings so that people would be able to get a hold of me if I left my water bottle or pencil case somewhere,” said one reviewer who has truly leaned into the label maker lifestyle. “I also use it to label leftovers in my glass containers so I don’t have to keep trying to remember when I made something and when it’s going to expire.”

“I’m not one to go around labelling everything and everyone (those of you who have labelled your cat and your milk container, I’m referring to you),” said another reviewer. “But I have embarked on a much needed organization project to get control of my household’s STUFF. And I decided to indulge myself in this tool for it.”

“I’m sort of a type A, so I like to keep all my things labeled. Especially all the different batteries and chargers that seem to come with everything we buy,” said another. “I love being able to mark what everything is. It saves me from having to use a Sharpie on stuff, as my handwriting is awful. For $20, how can you possibly go wrong? “

The PTD210 machine includes a sample tape roll to get you started, but works with a variety of tape types if you have a preference. It runs on 6 AAA batteries or with an AC DC adapter, both sold separately.

The most common concern from many of the reviewers is that the machine creates excessive tape waste with its default one-inch margins. While the margins can be changed to as short as 1/5th of an inch, one side still prints out the one-inch gap. A workaround to this “tape waste” complaint is to plan in advance what you want to label, type it out as a string of words and then trim to size.

So, when it comes to labeling, you’re only limited by your imagination. How do you plan to let this small but mighty device change your home organization game?
