Best Sugru Hacks

Sugru is one of my favorite new inventions. The moldable, silly-putty type silicone that hardens overnight and bonds to most surfaces is a DIYers dream. Its practicality and usefuleness has spawned hack inspirations everywhere. Here are some of the most practical and fun applications that I've come across…

We've talked about Sugru a bit before, so you're probably familiar with its bonding power and flexibility. If you don't have some at your home yet, these fun DIY's may just get you to jump on the bandwagon...

1. Magnetic Tea Towels
If this DIY is as fun as the video — towels flinging across the room and sticking to the walls like Wacky Wallwalkers — we're totally doing this to all our dish towels.

2. Strappy-Dress Hanger
Give your current hangers some extra grip and functionality by just adding a touch of Sugru. You could even mold some around the hanger rod to prevent pants and slacks from slipping.

3. Non-skid Feet
Keep furniture or stools from slipping with moldable non-skid feet. And since Sugru bonds to the legs, you won't have to worry about slipping off those dang coasters again.

4. Laptop Risers
Your computer needs airflow to keep cool — especially the new multi-core i5 processors. Help tone down the heat with some risers that'll keep your laptop elevated just enough for a channel of air to flow beneath it.

5. Wireless Apple Keyboard Knob
We keep a coin under our keyboard for swapping out batteries with our Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad. But you can also use Sugru to help. This user molded a handy knob to make battery-duty easier

6. Heat-resistant Pot Handles
Cover your metal handles with Sugru for a quick and easy heat-resistant solution.

7. Vacuum Cord Hook Extension
The hook on the back of our vacuum never seems big enough to hold all of the power cord. This Sugru user fixed the problem by making an extender so the cord can wrap up neat and tidy.

8. Hack it better
One of our favorite ideas is putting Sugru on a screw and spinning a drill as you form the clay like a mini potter's wheel. Now you have your solution for making smooth, professional looking forms.

What has Sugru done for you lately?
