Bethany Meyer's Brooklyn Beach Vibe

I love when a space manages to pull off a beachy vibe without turning into a pastel-y, gaudy vacation rental (think brightly painted "fish art", fake buoy replicas, and nets draped from the ceiling). Bethany Mayer, owner of Surf Bazaar, gave Refinery 29 a tour of her Brooklyn home, and shows us all how it can be done tastefully.

What are a few of Bethany's tricks for accomplishing her low-key, beach retreat vibe? White walls that provide a neutral and serene backdrop, surf-style coffee table books, and beach finds that were scavenged instead of bought. The careful arrangement of objects stands out, thanks to the minimalist decor. Bethany manages to create a laid back beach vibe in the middle of a fast-paced urban neighborhood, without coming off contrived or over-the-top.
