Splish, splash … Bissell will change the way your dog gets a bath. The popular vacuum brand is crowdfunding BarkBath, a mess-free new way to get your four-legged friends clean.
BarkBath is a portable bath unit that washes your dog without you even having to coax her into the tub (or take her to the groomer). The nozzle penetrates the fur so your pet is cleaned from the skin up—not the fur down—getting dirt, dander up and out of your pup's coat. Water and shampoo are dispensed from the hand-held portion, while light suction lifts dirt and water away into a separate tank "for a clean you can see," according to Bissell's Indiegogo campaign.
It took more than two years — and "plenty of paws-on research" — for the minds at Bissell to develop the BarkBath system. The bath vacuum (bathcuum?) can clean dogs weighing as much as 80 lbs, using 50 times less water than traditional bathing requires (which can be up to 19 gallons).
"Bath time can be a huge pain point for both the pet and the pet parent. BarkBath helps make pet bath time faster, easier, and less messy than ever before," said Chuck Martin, Bissell's General Manager of Innovation. "If we can make pet clean up easy, more pets will be adopted!" Well, who are we to argue with that?
It seems pretty simple to use: You use the spray nozzle to add the mix of water and shampoo directly to your dog's coat with strokes following their coat (which can be adjusted for short- or long-haired pups). There's a function to rinse your pet with clean water, but Bissell says it's optional—the suction part of the tool will remove dirt and shampoo. Wet dog smell might just be a thing of the past.
Prioritizing pets is nothing new for Bissell. In 2011, the company created the Bissell Pet Foundation to "help reduce the number of animals in shelters and rescues and to find a loving home for every pet."
The foundation "has awarded millions of dollars to our growing partner network of animal welfare organizations and has impacted the lives of an incalculable number of pets."
