Terracotta is hardly groundbreaking when it comes to pots and planters. But, swap the signature rust shade for a sleek black finish and — voilà — you instantly have a home for your herbage that doubles as contemporary decor, both indoors or out. And depending on the hues of your houseplants, a black terracotta pot means instant cool color contrast — let those leaves pop, baby! (Just one quick tip: Be wary of putting these planters in overly sunny spots, since the darker hue tends to absorb excess heat.)

From functional pots to pretty flower vases, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite dark-toned terracotta (or lookalike) finds. Each piece feels particularly on-trend, but also timeless and evergreen enough to see your plants and flowers through their (hopefully lengthy) life cycles.
