Blogging Cottage Living – Jan/Feb ’08
Can you spot the super easy DIY in the picture above…?
It’s the light! A Pennsylvanian cottage owner was given the perfect ’50s style pendant light – perfect except the shade was bright orange. To fit it in to her subtle color scheme, she simply painted it silver (pg. 80). In another cottage, a resourceful owner updated the cheesy barstools left by the previous owner. One quick coat of aqua-hued paint and a couple yards of new fabric allowed the stools to keep their place in the newly-renovated kitchen (pg. 38).
Working with resolutions in mind, CL wanted to prove that a den can also stylishly double as a workout room (pg. 13). Their suggestion is to store all your sweatin’ to the oldies gear inside the TV console. It’s a great idea but an even better one is to line the inside of the cabinet with invigorating wallpaper. Before you know it, you’ll want to open the chest to see the pattern and, therefore, you’ll be dropping LBs in no time.
The same homeowner who painted her pendant silver also tried her hand at a wall mural (pg. 84). She fell in love with this wilderness-themed mural in a hunting catalog and instanstly needed it in her bedroom. She pasted it up, just like wallpaper. Even in magazines, things don’t go according to plan. She ended up re-aligning the deer’s antler with markers.
This is your cue to try out a home project. Don’t let mistakes, errors, or setbacks get you down, just keep going. What’s your January Jumpstart?
