Blogging Esquire: Actually, the Magazine Cover Itself

Sep 24, 2008

75 years of Esquire and how do they celebrate? With technology of course. We noted this special edition cover before, but the worlds first e-ink magazine cover is now out in the wild. Well, not the entire cover, but rather a rectangular section that flashes text and images and is powered with batteries. Let's take a closer look....

The flashing imagery and text is no doubt gimmicky. At the same time it is still very cool. The Vegas strip on the newsstand if that's your thing. Just make sure to recycle the magazine and e-ink components once the battery dies. It is RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant so you would treat them as you would treat regular battery recycling. Can you imagine a stack of shelter mags at home with flashing covers? Could make for one distracting bookshelf.
